Compliments Fill our Bucket

We can fill each other’s ‘invisible bucket’ of happiness in many ways, giving a compliment is just one of them. Acts of kindness, smiles, hugs, sharing, listening, helping, playing with one another, laughing, saying hello, using people’s names are a few others. When you are kind to others, your bucket is also being filled, being unkind to others ‘dips’ into and empties both buckets. Read ‘Fill a Bucket’ and ‘Have You Filled a Bucket’ by Carol McCloud.

Positive Thought of the Week

Use this in your school, classroom or business. Have students or workers come up with positive thoughts to put up each week. Have each student in the class write one and rotate them during the year, or as a school, choose one from each class on a rotating basis.

Some Prep/ Pre-Primary examples: Help someone if they are hurt; Let people play; Make friends with people you don’t know; Share toys.

Senior Primary examples: Don’t be a bully, think of others instead; When you give up, you fail, but when you try again you get another chance to pass; If you believe in yourself, others will believe in you; Stand up to bullying.

The Lesson Plans and Junior Workbook are best used up to Grade 2 in the first year you use this Package, to set up the basis of a whole school program, to introduce language and strategies to be built on. The program covers every Social and Emotional learning area and has been tried and tested over 6 years. All lessons can be adapted to suit older grades. The Junior Workbook is designed to be taught over one year. More lesson plans and Blackline Masters are being refined to follow up Social and Emotional concepts for older grades and will be ready in the near future.
